Honey its Cold Outside
Are your hands and feet cracked, dry and chapped? Perhaps a few tricks on how to lock moisture in will help. Bliss Spa Expert, Ann Marie Cilmi, offers several simple ‘to dos’ for which your skin and hair will say thank you once spring rolls around. Hands First Cilmi claims the best way to stop skin from drying out is, “Avoid overwashing to keep hands hydrated, keep them undercover when you’re outside and always have a good cream ‘on hand.’” No matter what type of skin you have–fair, medium or dark, Cilmi suggests, “If you’re extra dry, use the bliss glamour gloves and gel–the gloves have a special polymer gel lining that force-feeds dry skin with essential softening agents, like Grapeseed, Jojoba and olive oil and vitamin E. They form a healing/hydrating occlusive barrier on especially dry skin, and help soothe and soften hands that are ravaged by psoriasis, eczema and sun damage.” Cilmi also recommends a do-it-yourself scrub. “Straight out of the pantry: mix any oil with your favorite fresh herbs and salt. Scrub on for 10 minutes, rinse off and push cuticles to reveal butter fingers.” Toes and Feet “Repair those beach-worn, strappy-toed summer feet with these miracle ‘heel’ers and give pedicures a run for their money, extending their staying power with a good alpha-hydroxy-acid based foot formula smeared on across toes, cuticles and heels,” comments Cilmi. “Don’t dread your peds,” she adds, “and use bliss hot salt scrub filled with water for a soothing eucalyptus foot soak.” And for calluses she likes bliss softening socks and sock salve. Body Smooth Cilmi’s popular home remedy to soften skin, “Soak in a bath of 1 gallon of warm whole milk and honey mixed with warm water. The lactic acid in milk is both softening and exfoliating. Blend a drop of peppermint, rosemary, bergamot, thyme and eucalyptus essential oils into a cool bath, and in five minutes, you’ll be feeling fabulous and refreshed.” To slough away dead skin cells she states, “Use bliss steep clean self-heating body polish packed with a pineapple super-zyme, smartscrub beads and zeolite, to give your body a serious ‘hot’ rubdown.” Hair Basics Unwanted dryness and breakage is a problem during winter. Celebrity stylist, Takisha Sturdivant suggests, “Women modify their haircare routine based on seasonal changes. Cold weather tends to zap moisture, which is why I recommend using a deep conditioning treatment to help restore moisture into your hair. Well-moisturized hair can better stand up to the stresses of styling and cold weather.” Sturdivant recommends using Pantene Relaxed & Natural Breakage Defense Deep Conditioning Mask’s every other week. “The biggest hair problem during the winter is static,” says Celebrity Stylist Frank Galasso. “Many make the mistake of adding wax or serums to their hair after they have styled it to manage their fly-aways. However, I recommend treating the problem before it happens with anti-frizz cream applied to damp hair. I like Aussie Anti-Frizz Cream + Leave-In Condition, because it keeps hair in place and also nourishes dried ends at the same time.” Here you have it, valuable advice how to maintain silky skin during the winter months.
