February 2007 MICHAL NEGRIN A Treasure Trove of All Things Feminine By Carol Sorgen I first learned about Israeli designer Michal Negrin several years ago when I fell in love with a pair of earrings my friend in Switzerland was wearing. She found them in Paris, she told me, but she didn’t remember the name of the store or the name of the street…she did, however, remember the name of the hotel where she had stayed that was next to the store. On my next trip to Paris, I did a little sleuthing, and sure enough, found this jewel box of a boutique right in the middle of my favorite quartier, St. Germain. Located on the tiny but fashionable rue des Canettes, this small boutique, named for its founder and principal designer, Michal Negrin, is a treasure trove of all things feminine, from jewelry to accessories to home décor. The Paris boutique—like the designer’s other shops throughout the world—represents Negrin’s own design aesthetic, a combination of European and neo-Victorian influences. Imported lace, vintage photographs, and sparkly crystals adorn the store, and set off the romantic, feminine whimsies inside to their best advantage. On my last trip there I bought a beautiful, smoky blue fringed lace scarf/shawl that has garnered rave reviews every time I’ve worn it. On your next visit to Paris, add this charming shop to your must-visit list. You’re sure to come away with at least one stylish souvenir that will have heads turning when you return home. 12, rue des canettes, 6e arrondisement Paris, France michalnegrin.com |
