Happiness by Sebastien Schuller
Cataloguelf
Schuller is a classically trained percussionist from France who with Happiness has wrought an album that sounds at turns like Ennio Morriconne in full  soundtrack mode, at other moments electronica comes to the fore and finally he occasionally sings in a highest falsetto that brings Thom Yorke to mind. Schuller’s multi-instrumentalist talent lead many of Happiness’s songs towards a gorgeous constructed wall of digital sound but the mélange of styles is fused in a cleverly recorded work that avoids the over processed sonic pitfalls of many current albums.   This is his first LP; expect to hear more from and about him in the future.

It’s a Fleeting Affair by Lindstrom
Fidelity Recording
Hailing from Norway, Lindstrom gained his dance floor credibility remixing Franz Ferdinana, LCD Sound systems and Prins Thomas in a spaced out disco style that reflects his unusual musical upbringing – he claims not to even have heard dance music until a couple of years ago.  Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised by his musical transformation into a dance meister, he spent his early years playing piano in a gospel group before morphing into organ player for a Deep Purple tribute band in his early 20s! This CD demonstrates his eclectic influences and his maturing studio skills.

Wolfmother by Wolfmother
Interscope Records
Wolfmother’s oz metal is reaching a broader audience with their latest release.  The trio from Sydney has played a well received string of festivals around the glove over the last year, carving a reputation for themselves as big venue specialists who can inject fun back into loud not too serious guitar wigouts.  Their debut album breaks out of the straight metal mold with psychedelic tinges giving their music an added oomph.  Their achievements as keepers of the stadium rock flame were recognized recently when they were chosen to cover Led Zeppelin’s Communicatin Breakdown during Zep’s recent induction into the rock and roll hall of fame.
