BEAUTY SECRETS Shortcuts To Look And Feel Fabulous By Leah Jayasanker Are you out of makeup remover and in search of a quick fix to get the gook off? Beauty regimes typically come via grandmas and great aunts who swear by old-school secrets versus current day products. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly to remove eye make up and conditioner in place of shave gel are two very common tricks of the trade. We asked a few of the beauty industry's finest to share their favorite short cuts and unconventional tips for looking and feeling fabulous, and here is what we got. “Use baby wipes instead of make up remover, concealer instead of eye shadow base and oil-free lipstick in place of blush. Also, adopt a massage machine onto your lips for circulation to make them fuller." - Karmela Lozina, Stylist John Sahag Workshop in New York City Jessie Serrano, Makeup Artist at Sothys Spa in New York City recommends: “Store your under eye cream in the fridge and after time gently apply around eyes to reduce under eye puffiness. The cold temperature constricts blood vessels, preventing the flow of fluid into tissues, diminishing puffiness in the process.” “Use olive oil to remove waterproof mascara. Dab a few drops on a cotton ball and gently swipe over closed eyes. The toughest mascara will be easily removed and, because of the moisturizing benefits of the oil, lashes get re-hydrated and conditioned.” “Add a bit of moisturizer to your favorite liquid foundation, to give a light, even coverage and leave you with a radiant glow.” “Using a fine tipped brush smudge a mixture of your favorite eye shadow and waterproof mascara into the upper lash line to create a soft long-lasting outline with a hint of color.” “Dust clean lashes with loose powder then apply mascara. The loose powder gives mascara something to adhere to which creates full, thick lashes without primer.” Joanna Almeida, Freelance Makeup Artist for weddings and social events in Boston, Massachusetts offers these valuable tips: “Use hair gel on eyebrows to keep them looking groomed.” “If you don't want to use mascara, curl your eyelashes and forgo mascara as a way to open up your eyes.” “If your eyes are on the small side, don't use any eyeliner or mascara on the bottom of your eye.” “To make thin lips look fuller, add a little bit of lighter colored gloss to the center part of lower and upper lip for a fuller-looking appearance.” Arianne Damboise, Benefit Cosmetics National Makeup Artist states, “Use Benefit’s Ooh La Lift under eye product, on your lips to mute out the color to create the perfect nude lip.” Makeup Artist Linda Cantello claims, “Vaseline Petroleum Jelly is the best way to remove eye make-up.” (Glamour, July 2006). Additionally Dr. Richard Fried, MD, PhD states, “Petroleum jelly is a superb moisturizer that can plump the skin around the eye area and temporarily reduce the look of lines.” (Cosmopolitan, July 2006) |
