POLIZEI 144
Leather Jackets For The
Rally Set And Fashionistas

By Jeanne McCollister

In 1957 the German government formed the world's first Autobahn Interceptor Unit - Polizei 144. Although shrouded in secrecy, Polizei 144's capture of Europe's most notorious criminals became a legend among police worldwide, and the unit soon became the testbed for prototypes too powerful for the public. Polizei 144 was disbanded in 1998, and the last interceptor, an E39 BMW M5, was restored in 2002 by Rally Driver Alex Roy. Now you can wear the actual uniforms worn by Team Polizei, 7-Time Rally Champions.

In 2005 Gumball and Bullrun champion Alexander Roy founded Polizei 144 to bring his eye-catching and stylish leather jackets, originally worn as disguises on the rallies, to a wider audience. Infamous on the rally circuit as the driver of the 'Polizei' car and a renowned prankster, Alex created the notorious "Team Polizei" in 2003, and has won 7 trophies in as many rallies. (He most recently placed first in the 2006 Gumball). His high-profile exploits, disguises and victories have won him legions of supporters among rally fans, and a peerless place in the world of extreme rallysport. A TV personality and philanthropist, he has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, BBC, Forbes, Miami Herald, San Francisco Chronicle, Wired, the NY Post and Cosmopolitan, and Vanity Fair. Alex is represented by the William Morris Agency. Harper Collins/Reganbooks will be publishing Roy's Rally Memoir "The Driver" in 2007.

The Polizei 144 collection, available for men and women, has been garnering the attention of the fashion world as well as rally enthusiasts. Embodying Alex's personal style and spirit, Polizei 144 jackets bear various European country emblems, distinctive police-style emblems, and are inspired by new and vintage police uniforms from around the world.  Polizei jackets were shown on the runway at the Dressed to Kilt fashion show, where they were worn by racing legend Sir Stirling Moss and Indy race car driver Alexis Fenton.

Alexander Roy's jackets have also been seen on Courtney Cox-Arquette, David Arquette, Dave Navarro, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Jessica Biel,  Jennifer Garner and many others. The jackets retail for $650 – 950 and the exotic pins and patches can be customized.
