THE OPERA COLLECTION
Vintage Bags With
21st Century Tech
By Carolyn Waring

Tomorrow’s ‘It’ bag is being designed and made today by designers Bozenna and Lukasz Boguski in Southern California.  The couple, who see beauty in everything around them, make luxurious and feminine handbags out of stainless steel wire mesh.  The clutches and bags have the classic appeal of the vintage purses admired by Bozenna and the 21st century sophistication of the technologies used by Lukasz.

The designers’ ingenious use of wire mesh allows them to create bags that appear to be made of silk moiré, satin ribbons, matte fabric, feathers, leaves, creased silk, silver net and zebra print.  It’s the weights and textures of the wire mesh that give the handbags their deceptive and unique appearances.  The 24-karat gold plating, 23-karat gold leaf, copper and brass allows a wide range of color and appearance.  With the exception of the sterling silver chain (used as a shoulder strap) and unique fabric lining, the bags are made entirely of stainless steel.

The newest addition to the line is the Delila Long, a modern exaggeration of a classic silhouette.  The bag is 12” long, 3 1/2” high, and 2 ½” wide.  The different textures of the mesh give the appearance of 3-dimensional rich ruby, stunning blue and classic charcoal silk moiré, shiny satin ribbons and an elegant matte zebra print.

Each bag is named after a well-known opera, hence the name ‘The Opera Collection’.  There are currently 35 styles in multiple colors and textures.  The artists also customize bags when requested.  Because the bags are carried in so few shops it’s recommended they be ordered directly from the designers via email ( This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ).  The collection can be viewed online at www.bosart.net .  Prices range from $190.00 - $365.00.

Bozenna gained recognition with her haute couture collection of evening dresses.  Lukasz became known for creating lamps of paper, fiberglass, metal and stainless steel wire mesh.  They blended her fashion sense with his knowledge of technology to create handbags.
