BROOKLYN'S BED STY
The Perfect New York Backdrop
For An Intimate Fashion Portrait

Fashion photographer, Marc Baptiste’s intimate portrait captures the essence and character of Bedford-Stuyvesant, or Bed Sty, as the locals refer to it. It’s one of the many New York City neighborhoods like Greenwich Village, Flatbush, Harlem, Chinatown, Little Italy or Coney Island with an identity and culture that is known outside of New York. Spike lee’s incendiary portrayal of race relations and the clash of cultures on the streets of Bed Sty in Do The Right Thing, prominently featured the brownstones and flavor of the neighborhood.  Also, many well-known Rap, Rhythm and Blues and hip-hop artists such The Notorious B.I.G, Aaliyah, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, Lil Kim, Mos Def, Big Daddy Kane hail from Bedford-Stuyvesant. Chris Rock and Lennie Wilkens also come from Bed Sty. Although Bed Sty has struggled with some negative perceptions, its ongoing renaissance and roster of pop culture stars have given the community a great sense of pride.
