BATHING BEAUTY: SUITS TO “SUIT” ALL Finding The Right Suit By Leah Jayasanker Leave it to a woman to design a bathing suit that fits like a glove. This is no ordinary fit for the perfect buttocks of Gisele Bündchen or the bountiful breasts of Pamela Anderson. We’re referring to a petite, a size 10 and a six-foot woman. As some of us prefer to be ‘perfect’, others stay true to their image and size. All the talk on finding the right fitting swimsuit certainly calls for top-notch designers like Lisa Curran of Lisa Curran Swim and Jill Goldsberry of Jill Kelly Swim. These bathing beauties have experience and expert knowledge for suiting a woman in the appropriate bathing attire. Take note all you curvaceous, not-so-easy-to-fit ladies as your solution is right here. As a petite and curvy woman (size 4 with a 32D bust), Lisa Curran knew it was hard to locate the ideal swim attire for her figure. Frustrated with her search she embarked on a journey to put her ideas on paper creating suits to satisfy all types of women—including herself. Her take on designing for varying sizes, “When I design a style I know exactly who is wearing the suit; I design for myself, my mom and my high school babysitter.” For women that like to cover up while on the beach or at the pool Curran notes, “You can add a little skirt to cover up which we offer in the same fabric as our swimsuits, and you can mix and match many different tops and bottoms, offering the option to find the perfect fit.” The bottom line for looking and feeling great in any bathing suit by Curran’s method is, “If you feel good you will look that much better in your bikini or a one piece.” New from her Spring/Summer 2007 collection is an array of very popular metallics, in the bikini style along with a more subdued version that carries little bronze and silver square motif. Curran adds, “Dots are also very popular this season alongside our bamboo trimmed bikini.” For more on Lisa Curran Swim visit lisacurranswim.com . Another designer whose swimsuit styles cater to the busy, ever-changing lifestyle of women today is Jill Goldsberry, creator of Jill Kelly Swim. LJ: Tell me more about Jill Kelly Swim and versatility of your designs. Jill Kelly Swim (JKS) is a line of reversible bikinis. The focus is really on the classic string bikini because it timeless. My line is for the woman who leads an active lifestyle and travels but also wants to look sexy without too much effort. That's why my styles of bikinis are reversible, as women want to change their look. My clients can go on a weeklong journey and have a different look everyday with just one swimsuit. In addition, I offer extra long strings to adjust to a small, medium or large. LJ: Do you feel your cut and contour allow for different shapes and sizes to wear JKS? I think that a woman should always have some idea of what looks good for her body. So that being said, my cut is between a Brazilian and an American cut. It's not too small but then it's not a bloomer bottom either. I work with three models that have three very different shapes, and they all wear the same medium bikini. A fuller curvy woman can wear a JKS bikini just like the body of a teenager—essentially the strings are the key to this adjustment. LJ: What new items can we look for in Spring/Summer and Resort 2007 collections? I will have new short-shorts for bottoms and cover-ups. I'm feeling inspired by different things so it's always a surprise to me too what the outcome will be. For more on Jill Kelly Swim visit jillkellyswim.com |
