WHAT’S IN By Leah JayasankerYOUR HANDBAG? The Beauty Laundry List Ask and you shall receive. Every now and then friends, family and colleagues inquire about the contents of my bathroom shelves and my beauty bag. They want to know the items I can’t live without and what remains constant inside my purse. I figure why not share the love and let folks know what items work well for me. Below is my laundry list of makeup, moisturizers and overall beauty essentials. Can’t live without Even though Tweerzerman specializes in plucking fine hairs, they’ve mastered the tiny eyelash curler with the Tweezerman Pocket Curler. My girlfriends know my obsession with curling my lashes (even when it’s 2 a.m.) and finally after lugging my Shu Uemura eyelash curler all over the place I received this fabulous set from Tweezerman. For plucking I still swear by Tweezerman, and truth be told I recently sent my two-year old set back for sharpening for a mere $5 charge. I’m a mani / pedi fanatic and insist on soft moist hands and feet. I’m such a slave to Burt’s Bee Shea Butter Hand Repair Crème that I’ve got several tubes stashed throughout my car, purse and night stand. For feet my bedtime ritual includes a huge slather of Dr. Scholls Pedicure Essentials Ultra Overnight Foot Cream all over my toes. I have to carry Mustela Cleansing and Soothing Wipes for messy spills in the car and for cleaning the dirt of my hands when traveling. They even work well for getting eye makeup off when I forget my trusty Lancome Bi-Facial Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover. If I’m out I’ll get the best drugstore substitute, Maybelline Expert Eyes 100% Oil Free Eye Make-Up Remover. Let’s talk makeup For work related events or meetings I use Guerlain’s Divinora Silky-Smooth Foundation, Fluid, Semi-matt SPF 12. On light days I stick with Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. If I’m out of Guerlain or Armani I use Physicians Formula Mineral Wear™ Talc-Free Mineral Foundation. It works perfect when my skin is hyper sensitive and prone to seasonal breakouts. For cheek and all over stain my only pick is e.l.f. Shimmering Facial Whip. It goes on nice and smooth and doubles as an eye gloss when I want an added pop of shimmer. Lip wise my two choices from e.l.f. are, Hypershine Gloss and Plumping Lip Glaze. I buy these in bulk as I’m afraid the $1 craze will end and I’ll be out of my e.l.f. staples. Another favorite is Lucy B Cosmetics Fresh Juice Lip Gloss in Glamarama. It has the perfect tint of sheer red to make my lips look larger than life without causing them to dry out. For days when I like a bee stung appearance I slather on Philosophy Big Mouth gloss. For eyes I adore Too Faced Eyeshadow Duo in Little Black Dress which contains the right combo of black and gold shimmer, great for day and evening use. For eyeliner that stays on for hours I stick with M•A•C Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Engraved. A second favorite of mine is Red Earth Intimate Details Duo Eye Pencil in Lacy Afternoon. The dark edge contains just the right amount of glitter to make eyes twinkle while the white edge works best for brightening up a tired look. I’m really not a fan of mascara, as I prefer false lashes. If I had to choose one I’d say my mother’s recent recommendation of Maybelline XXL Volume + Length Washable Mascara. It really made my lashes dramatically longer. Another useful day-to-eve product is Too Faced Kitty Glitter eye shadow which offers just the right amount of glow. I dab a pinch around the eye area and neck for a touch of shimmer. When I run errands I typically load on a moisturizer-sunscreen combo like, Neutrogena Healthy Skin® Face Lotion SPF 15 and a gloss (Lucy B’s Fresh Juice or Goldie Lip Gloss in Naked). Since I hide under my massive sunglasses I find no need for makeup. Morning and evening I religiously cleanse my face with Stiefel Sulfur Soap, which eliminates and prevents new acne from forming. Two to three times a week I add Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating™ Daily Scrub. And if my skin gets a little dry I substitute with Healing Garden Organics Face Wash. For hair care I use all sorts of shampoos and conditioners. My hair needs fall under conditioning mask treatments. Both Kerastase (Nutritive Nutridefense Masque) and Davines (Momo Moisturizing Revitalzing Crème) cure the dry and flaky days. For a long-lasting firm hold I’m a fond fan of Nexxus Y Serum Younger Looking Hair Finishing Aerosol Mist. |
