TRENDS IN JEWELRY
As Fashion Evolves
Accessories Follow

By Leah Jayasanker

Trends in jewelry are ever-changing and while fashion evolves accessories follow. Vis.a.Vis showcases two stylish picks—both authentically worthy to run out and purchase for fall.

Mary Margrill, founder of M2 design by mary margrill, offers some insight on her jewelry.

LJ: In one sentence how would you describe the concept of M2 design?
MM: My jewelry gives new life to the concept of what things mean by incorporating amulets and talismans from Egypt, Asia, Tibet, and many other world mythologies—all which are fused together to channel the one concept of feminine energy.

LJ: How has the concept of jewelry changed over the past decade, and what are some of the reoccurring trends in today’s market?
MM: I feel like jewelry is more an expression of who you are now, you are making a statement, whether it is wearing huge hoop earrings or a tiny pendant on a necklace. It is all expressive, yet personal. Constant trends include: lots of layering…tons of necklaces, rings, and bracelets.

LJ: What was your inspiration for designing the pictured pieces: 18-karat Cobra Transformation Earring with turquoise drop ($2,200) and the18-karat Snake Pendant with emerald eyes ($696), available at m2designint.com .
MM: I incorporated snake imagery in this particular collection, which represents transformation, all living creatures go through some form of transformation in their lives. A snake sheds his skin and is reborn, just as we transform and are open to new possibilities. There is beauty in knowledge that change and transformation is not only possible, but can be valuable.
