 NOVEMBER 2007 - GLOBAL CALENDAR
Cultural Events From
Around The World

By Doha Challah

Switzerland, Basel: AVO Session
November 4 – 15

Music Concerts are always fun, but you and I both know that standing in crowded places takes the pleasure out of it…especially when the artist’s music is mellow! Take Basel’s music festival for  example, it brought intimacy to its concerts by organizing a club seating arrangement with a candle light setting. The event ends its climax by announcing a Musician’s Musician award, a Rising Star award, and the Lifetime Achievement award (previous winners include Sir Elton John and Seal). Enjoy a laid-back night listening to your favorite tunes with your friends.  This year’s line-up includes Joss Stone, Joe Cocker and Chuck Berry.

France, Brest: Festival Européen du Film Court de Brest
November 10 – 18

Every month I come across a big list of film festivals that are worthy of note, some are well established and others are just emerging. My dilemma revolves around picking the most interesting choice for our readers. This time however, the quest was short and simple - which best explains this cool event. For 8 days, fans and attendees can watch movies that last up to 6 minutes and discuss them with film makers. This makes for a mostly social event showcasing a rich side of European film production.

United Arab Emirates, Dubai: International Fine Art & Antique fair
November 21 – 24

Exhibitors from around the world are gathering up their finest pieces to be showcased in the Middle East’s biggest art and antiques fair. A selection of collectable art, furniture, oriental carpets, lightings, Islamic work, sculptures… and much more give this event great magnitude. Also, if you do not know too much about Dubai, then this event is a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the Emirate’s culture and influences.

United States of America, Hawaii: Ultraman World Championships.
November 23- 25

Immersing yourself in sports is one of the best purifiers for the soul and spirit. But it is by invitation only that you can experience an ultimate challenge of self rediscovery in this intense championship. The participants are required to finish an assigned distance of an open ocean swim, a cross-country bike ride, and an ultra-marathon run (with some vertical climbing on the side). Without delving into the numbers, it is a boot camp and requires much dedication, so if your fitness level is so-so then you are probably not invited.
