Come fall, Spanish designer Adolfo Domínguez will be the face behind Iberia's new chic uniforms. Midnight blue and red hues now rule the new look for Iberia's 10,000 employees. Even more exclusive, trousers are being included as an optional garment for female personnel. Domínguez joins other acclaimed designers such as Alfredo Caral, Elio Berhanyer, Pertegaz and Pedro Rodríguez who have designed uniforms for Iberia in the past. Flying high has never looked so good! designing for AD- It was an honor to be chosen. It was a competition, like everything else in life, and I offered the best proposal. It's a very complex task to dress 10,000 people scattered around the globe, so we had to have the means to get the measurements. So it was a serious undertaking. The fact is, what all designers wish for is to take what surrounds us to make it more beautiful, more fashionable. DC- What
inspires you as a designer? Any movements around the world? Who's your fashion
muse? AD- My muse is my wife, I also have three daughters. Designers offer proposals, some of them are rejected and some are accepted. What is accepted is what's fashionable. I really pay attention to people's needs, because what we should do here is make life better, make people even more beautiful. Some designers don't pay attention to creativity, I do. DC- You
started with designing suits for men, was the transition to women hard to achieve? AD- I started with men because there was nothing for men other than suits, shirts and ties; we used to dress like the business community. So sports wear and casual wear took over. Then we moved to women, kids, etc. DC- Defining everything that is stylish, you have license agreements for Adolpho Domínguez homeward, eyewear and stationary, also your AD accessories, what's next for the company?AD- The opportunity to grow and expand, to have more stores around the world.
